iphoneWhatsApp has been one of the most active mobile messenger in last few years. WhatsApp has been adding new features and making improvements to the app to make it more relevant. WhatsApp is the most popular messaging service with almost a billion users worldwide. One of the remarkable feature about whatsApp is its support for a brand spectrum of devices, from android to blackberry, windows phone.

Last month whatsapp introduced GIF’s and video call. However, the master stroke played by Whatsapp is that Whatsapp is now stopping support for many of the older devices. Whatsapp announced that it will end support for older Smartphone’s operating system by the end of the year which include the older version of Android, IOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry.

The seven year old WhatsApp announcement will reflect a drastic change in smart phone’s market. In the era of technology upgrade, WhatsApp has planned to phase out compatibility with older phones as their plan is to focus on mobile platforms that every people use.

The mobile platforms and their versions which would not be supported by WhatsApp in 2017 are:

  • Android 2.1 and 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS6

App support will be extended for the following devices until june 2017

  • Blackberry
  • Nokia S40
